XCOM 2
Long War 2
I quit Long War 2
Why?

Because its a grind and stops being fun.

Resources are to scarce, you are barely rewarded for anything, not having universal weapon and armor upgrades adds tedium more than challange, the flow is entriely off, the timed missions do not support such big maps, and more. And simply put, long campigns do not fit Xcom, well paced ones do.

Long war 2 should have been a more improved version of the campaign, not some grind.;

Welcome to a Long War. It never claimed to be anything different.

It is what it is, not what you wish it to be. Learn how to write unrealscript if you want to make it how you want.

It's kind of in the name, isn't it? :)

There are better ways to make a long campaign.

Definitely are. Everything could use improvement. Right now though, this is the best we've got, so suck it up and have the courage to do something else if you don't enjoy this. Don't get hung up trying to change something you can't.

Unless you're actually serious, in which case I, again, urge you to learn UnrealScript and code it yourself.

In a way, every game is a grind isn't it? They give you some abilities anf some enemies, have you fight them for a while and gradually introduce new abilities, enemies and obstacles til the end of the game, but you're still doing basically the same thing

In a shooter you grind by shooting things, and you just get new maps and guns to shoot things on

In an RPG you can get new abilities and magic but the basic turn based bashing at each other is still a grind

In an action RPG like Dark Souls it's all down to dodge timing and counter attacking when you know the opponent's moveset, it doesn't change, and you can actually grind for HP so you aren't punished so badly, stamina so you can rely on blocking til you get dodging down, or damage so you shorten the length of fights and thus the time in which you could make a mistake

In a strategy like total war, xcom or age of empires you're still doing the same things, building your bases each time, fighting battles with gradually new units that appear

People tend to associate grind with MMO, but that's just a blatant and slow paced example, EVERY game is a grind

You don't have to learn any of that. The devs, much like the first LW, put the majority of the options available for alteration in the INI file. Sure, that's a bit of work to navigate, but you can customize the game to your preferred experience.

you are playing the wrong way, DONT play like vanilla, avoid shooting aliens until you are close to the objectives and everybody is learning how to optimize the strategy layer.

Been doing that. It sthe two liberation missions I have a problem with however, where aliens cannot be avoided.

However, in many RPGs and other games, there is better pacing. The problem with Long War 2 is pacing and tedium. Not having universal weapon and armor upgrades for a squad of 30 or more is simply tedious. The padding also feels artificial instead of natural.

I think it overdid the Guerilla warfare theme. All we do is run around the map to the evac zone. No time to use the new shiny guns and abilities. You win the game if you got Usain Bolt in the team lol

Kinda need those new shiny guns and abilities to make it to evac zones alive.

I'm not sure whether you refer to the Guerrilla War mod, or not. I'm a fan, and LW2 hits all the sweet spots.

Vanilla didn't feel as much guerilla warfare as it felt a remake of XCOM that dropped air game and manufacturing entirely in favour of improved ground combat. GW (among others) upped the immersion a notch, so that the theme of the game could be felt, experienced, not just looked at in cutscenes. And LW2 takes it to a whole new level.

Some game breaking bugs aside, LW2 fits my preferences like a glove.

Then go to the .ini files and change a few lines to True instead of False.

I just wanted to vioce a few complaints, I don't agree with the decisions to change squad upgrades and such, but I undertsand why they were made and respect that opinion. The things I don't respect are the hidden information such as the invisible reinforcements and hit chances that aren't actually what they say they are unless you use a different mod. these things would be okay in a different game, but in the framework set up they make the game punishingly difficult instead of a good challenge. Loosing because you muddled along through the midgame and never found the alien objectives is fair. loosing because the aliens dropped a seven man pod in the middle of your squad isn't.
