It is what it is, not what you wish it to be. Learn how to write unrealscript if you want to make it how you want.
There are better ways to make a long campaign.
Unless you're actually serious, in which case I, again, urge you to learn UnrealScript and code it yourself.
In a shooter you grind by shooting things, and you just get new maps and guns to shoot things on
In an RPG you can get new abilities and magic but the basic turn based bashing at each other is still a grind
In an action RPG like Dark Souls it's all down to dodge timing and counter attacking when you know the opponent's moveset, it doesn't change, and you can actually grind for HP so you aren't punished so badly, stamina so you can rely on blocking til you get dodging down, or damage so you shorten the length of fights and thus the time in which you could make a mistake
In a strategy like total war, xcom or age of empires you're still doing the same things, building your bases each time, fighting battles with gradually new units that appear
People tend to associate grind with MMO, but that's just a blatant and slow paced example, EVERY game is a grind
really nice post - so true :)
You don't have to learn any of that. The devs, much like the first LW, put the majority of the options available for alteration in the INI file. Sure, that's a bit of work to navigate, but you can customize the game to your preferred experience.
Been doing that. It sthe two liberation missions I have a problem with however, where aliens cannot be avoided.
However, in many RPGs and other games, there is better pacing. The problem with Long War 2 is pacing and tedium. Not having universal weapon and armor upgrades for a squad of 30 or more is simply tedious. The padding also feels artificial instead of natural.
I'm not sure whether you refer to the Guerrilla War mod, or not. I'm a fan, and LW2 hits all the sweet spots.
Vanilla didn't feel as much guerilla warfare as it felt a remake of XCOM that dropped air game and manufacturing entirely in favour of improved ground combat. GW (among others) upped the immersion a notch, so that the theme of the game could be felt, experienced, not just looked at in cutscenes. And LW2 takes it to a whole new level.
Some game breaking bugs aside, LW2 fits my preferences like a glove.
Where do I do that?
