Until now this missions always was a walk in a park (4 rebels are a perfect frontlinr, while the sniper shoots from the rear.
So if i give him a magnet sniper-rifle the rebels will use magnets too?
As far as I know, you only lose the rewards for this mission and the progress in detection other missions and faceless. If you activate the faceless, they will be gone from the region, maybe even without activationg.

I read that the equipment of the rebels depends on your overall research, not the advisor gear. They will be 1 or 2 tears below current progress. But it seems there is some confusion, would be great if this info would be easier to access...
Yes, i always gave my sniper a tier 1 gun but the rebels lately had laser guns (i have magnets researched and manufactured)
