Haven Relay Defense Missions - What decides the distance?
I have had quite a few of these, but the distance between my squad the and Relay varied quite a bit in each. AT best, it was 1-2 turns away, at worst, it was so far that the mission was practically impossible.

What decides this distace? While on the topic, what decides whether a Haven Assault mission starts with the aliens already on the map (the hard ones), or no aliens on the map, but with inbound reinforcements (easy ones)?

Help would be appreciated.

Purely randomly generated i would have thought for all

That seems pretty dissappointing. I would have thought that it depends on some hidden factor, like how much intel you have gathered in the area. Does not seem like something Pavonis would just leave to chance.

Especially since some of htese missions are impossible. Doesn't seem right to be randomly losing those, based only on RNG.

They're pretty difficult, probably too much so, but why would intel dictate where the aliens put their jammer? there's no logical juncture there

I updated my post to reflect that I am stricktly referring to the missions where you defend the Relay. IF you start too far away from it, it is almost impossible.
