crash bug
Okay, so I have done some further testing on my own today.
I only played the Leoric builder.
Most of the times, I had enabled hard mode and return to sender.
First time I tested ( I didn't activate return to sender) I played normally and lost at round 10. I didn't experience any lags, freezes or crashes.
Only weird thing I saw was some strange green circles on the ground, as if there was some hidden buildings. They seemed to appear and disappear at random times and in random patterns.
I still don't know what triggered that to happen, but it did happen every single time I tested today.

On the next tests, that I was able to hold till the 10th round ( not easy when you have hard mode and return to sender enabled), the game froze totally.
I was able to move my mouse cursosr though it still lagged while it was moving... Im not an expert but it seems like this bug is causing an overload on the cpu.
After the game freezes for around 10 seconds, it automatically crashes and when I renter the game, there is no reconnect button ; only leave game button.

Note that when I tested it with Lexeo yesterday, I saw him going online and then playing dota 2, which I think means his game was crashing too.
However the same did not happen to me yesterday. I was only getting kicked out of the server after the game froze. I still saw the reconnect button, but all reconnect attempts were unsuccessful. It wasn't until today that both the game and server crashed.
My laptop is not a high end pc, but it isn't a toaster either.
The crashes aren't triggered by low fps or something our pc's aren't able to run ( pretty certain of that).

Concering the units lineup, I don't think that's the problem, because everytime the game crashed today, pudge would be facing the king ( meaning all my units were dead).
However, yesterday the game was crashing while me and my friend were still defending the waves.

I really don't have any clue what is triggering this or how to even replicate it. All I know is that it seems to be happening for me and a few other people so far.

On a side note, Im still testing the new builder and I will hopefully provide further feedback for any bugs or suggestions.

The circles are for debugging purposes, they are the waypoints the sendunits are using for pathing. They disappear if you play without cheats enabled. (If they don't then that's a bug but I havn't touched anything even remotely close to that part of the code so it's probably in the basegame as well)

I will try to further test what might be crashing it. Infinite loops in AI and such usually don't cause crashes as they are run in different threads. They just really slow the game down.

Why I'm asking about the units is because I had a similar thing happen with jinada, where every time a unit with jinada attacked the game just crashed. It might be a similar thing here with some other ability. Backstab comes to mind. (It's *maybe* broken right now? I sometimes get lua errors which makes no sense, othertimes not). I'll get that working before release but it's really hard to test without AI that specifically tries to attack enemies in the back.

With jinada it was really obvious because it was right the second where he attacked the game just crashed. Do you observe anything similar? Perhaps it's return to sender? Some unit you sent? Perhaps a harpy? (They are the only ones with specified AI)

Actually I just found a small bug in the harpy code, perhaps it was causing the crash? Fixed now.

I did some extra testing on my own (solo).
Even with no cheats (vote options) this time.
The circles still presisted, and what's weird about it is that they don't exactly appear in the same pattern or form every time.
If you re-open the imgur link I sent and look closely at the second and the last pic, you will notice the circle pattern doesn't look the same.
No idea if this is relevant or not.

Also after the last update, I noticed that the screen doesn't freezes before it crashes anymore. Both the game and the server now crash automatically without any signs such as freezes or low fps. When I re-open dota, it would look as if the game ended ( no reconnect or leave button, but rather only the "play dota" button.

Note that also while testing this time, I managed once to get till round 12 and lost without any crashes.
every single try after that ended up with a crash (still no real clue to the reason).

The only im using are 5 zealots and i upgrade one of them once+ 2 silencer upgraded to max with each being different at the end (one would be the silent champion while the other upgrade).

I can safely say many times the game crashed after I leaked and my king was still fighting the wave, so I don't think it is likely that the crash is coming from any units.

Also I found that the upgraded silencer with the ability to remove one armor after each hit doesn't have any tooltip on the enemy and the ability doesn't seem to refresh or stack with more than one unit ( still need more testing to fully confirm that).

Also one weird thing is that sometimes the food indicator in the bottom right of the screen sometimes takes extra time to refresh after I put a new recent unit.

On a side note if the window on the left side of the screen, which indicates experience, ranking and such would be move some unused space of the screen, or would be some minimized if needed. That would be very useful.

I've been able to reliably reproduce this, scarabs on hydra (medusa) wave. Doesn't happen on any other wave though. I'll probably have to rewrite beetle swarm completely to fix it (Right now it's essentially weaver's ability with changed stats), which sounds quite hard. I'll figure it out one way or another.

Have you ever crashed without having a scarab that wave? Have you ever crashed outside of hydra wave? (yes right?)

Yes definitely I have crashed on a handeful of waves: in some cases my units would still be up and defending and the game would crash; on others it my whole lineup would be dead and the king would be the only one left to defend ( remember I am testing this on my very own, so no other players are present).

I will give further feedback once I have done more testing.

Okay so I tried playing without using zealots to see if it was the beetle swarm that was the main cause of the crashes.
After around 10 tests (only 3 of them had basic zealots with no upgrades), it turned out I only crashed when I had basic zealots.

I still can't figure why on some past days I had crashes even though the my units were dead and the beetle swarm were dead.

Upgrading the zealots doesn't make the game crash.

Hope you will be able to fix it!

Gonna keep posting any stuff I can find to make this mod better because I love it!

Great IDEA !!!! ----- So for Clicking the ( SKIP ) Button should give rewards, and knock down time from the bar.. to speed game up.. When you click it.. it locks.. cant do sometrhing else till next turn.. but you get 10g for first.. 9g for 2nd .. so on

-Pro tip 1: Don't spam comments
-Pro tip 2: Make you own post, or at least post a comment that has to do with the title.
-Pro tip 3: Learn to use your brain.

Skip button is used to make the game escalate faster (meaning you can proceed to the next round without having to wait extra time, if all the players agree).

With that said, the only suggestion that might be useful for the skip button would be to make it so when some player fully raged quits, we wouldn't need his vote anymore.

A lot of times we would have 7 players who wanted to skip, but we can't do that because one player abandoned the match.


On a side note, the crashes are no more, which great.
The updates seemed pretty cool.
Yet the circles are still visible. I don't think they are intended though.

Random feedback and suggestion:

-The undead and assassin builder seem significantly stronger than the other builder.
-The random builder seems like the least strong builder. Either make units in general cheaper(since they need to be unlocked for a price too) and/or give him a better passive.
-nature builder spider upgrade seems so weak, especially that the spiderlings spawned seem useless.

-The tooltip for the first upgrade of the silencer doesn't show proper tooltip, and im not sure that multiple sources of the armor reduction add up properly.


Also I remember reading somewhere that you guys will work on building a better AI, which I think is gonna rock :D

Some towers doesn't use their skills anymore (enigma, CM, gyro, treant and etc). Also, sometimes a new wave starts before the previous ends. Once, my creeps went to the duel, but I played alone. Sry for my bad english
