Total War: WARHAMMER

Total War: WARHAMMER

Elite Units of Reikland - Lore Friendly Unique Units UPDATED FOR WOOD ELVES PATCH
Outstanding Mod that Really Captures the Warhammer Lore.
I tried to post this in comments, but it was too long:

I have many good things to say about this mod. But first, I must point out that I started playing Warhammer TW with no prior knowledge or experience with Warhammer. I thought it was just a generic fantasy game, albeit one that has had a very strong influence on the style and direction of many games that have followed. (Warcraft, for example.)

After playing a bit and having a blast with WTW, I was specifically disappointed in the design of the Empire. This provoked me to research what colors were appropriate for their "faction", what do their actual costumes and armor look like, what is the "historical" background of the Empire, etc. And, I was shocked at how much more interesting the lore and uniforms of each faction is. Wow. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to start modding the actual textures and models of the units themselves. I toyed around with altering the colors, but could never get it to look what I felt was appropriate to Reikland. (Like you mentioned, their uniforms are almost exclusively white with accents of red, among other things.)

First, thank you for taking the time to do this. This is the first mod I've seen that captures both the accurate look of the Reikland troops, but also adds some of the flair and excitement of the Warhammer lore. One of the oddest things about WTW likely due to the limitations of the engine, is that your almost forced to take over all the other men factions land which causes their unique culture, units, colors, and banners to disappear. In the lore, it seems like men frequently form coalitions to fight side by side. And, it's not uncommon to see units from each colorful faction side by side in the hand-painted models I've seen online.

Second, as you likely know, many of the units in the Warhammer lore aren't restricted to a two-color scheme as is done in the WTW engine. I was thrilled when I noticed you had managed to create the "Altdorf Company of Heroes" with the blue/red AND the orange feather on their helmets. How did you manage to do this? This was one of the most disappointing things about the base game. So many small details like that don't exist and it really takes away from the depth of uniform design seen so frequently in the lore.

And finally, third, thank you also for not making the "hero" units both restricted to one but also not obnoxiously over-powered. I stopped using extra unit mods back in Napoleon Total War because people usually go way overboard in their design. I checked all the unit stats in comparison and you wisely have chosen to just tweak a few numbers' increase in most cases. (Like increasing armor by 2, or melee attack by 2.) This is a reasonable increase and will only make these units slightly more effective than their counterparts, as they should be.

So again, thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope you stick around and continue to add some much needed flair to the WTW base game. This mod will significantly add to my fun, and I'm sure many others' fun. Keep up the good work!
