Crusader Kings II

Jewish Kings
Mod Ideas Suggestions
I've found that playing as a Jewish realm once the Third Temple has been restored is ... boring. A Jewish realm once the Kohen Gadol is reestablished plays exactly the same as most Christian kingdoms and empires - but with fewer things to do. So, with @Gefilte's permission, I want to make a supplemental mod that adds a handful of things that make playing a conquering Jew more satisfying and variable:

  • "Moshiach" trait & nickname for a Jewish character who rebuilds the Temple (+5/month piety, +10 same_religion opinion bonus) and a patrilineal "beit Moshaich" trait for all their descendants (+0.5/month piety, +5 same_religion opinion bonus)
  • Hakhel[en.wikipedia.org] decision tree (available once every generation) mechanically similar to pilgrimage / Hajj
  • Decision system for offering animal sacrifices at the Temple with options to donate various amounts of gold for comparable amounts of piety, prestige, church opinion boosts, and/or a chance to gain virtuous traits
  • Possibly a set of random events similar to the tech bonus that Jewish courtiers give to non-Jewish rulers, but with a lower MTTH or lesser effect or both to maintain game balance
  • Forming the Kingdom of Israel replaces the Kingdom of Jerusalem de jure and triggers an event destroying that title if held; forming the Kingdom of Jerusalem replaces the Kingdom of Israel de jure and triggers an event destroying that title if held

Is anyone interested in this? And, does anyone have suggestions for other Jewish events or decisions to add?

A year or so late here, but I felt I ought to express interest anyway. Judaism really does need more events. The game provides wonderful religious/cultural immersion for Islam, Christianity, and Nordic paganism, but it's still a bit too sparse elsewhere. Especially Judaism, since the devs have started adding more content to other religions.

As my familiarity with the nuances of Judaism is limited, all I can suggest in addition is religious study/legal debates between learned Jewish characters. Also, a few years back, someone posted a Jewish AAR in which the main character dreamt of God and was called to cite Scripture to justify his actions, and I remember being disappointed that that wasn't an actual event in-game.

Following suggestions were made in the main comment section and are up for discussion:

- A Joan-of-Arc-esque event chain where a mystic appears in your court claiming to be the Messiah/a prophet
- if a king of Israel dies in battle he has a chance of the Kohen Gadol declaring him Mashiach ben Yosef and getting the trait "Mashiach ben Yosef". The trait can only be gotten once per playthrough
- All independent Jewish nations get an automatic claim on land needed to form Israel if it does not already exist
- Forming Israel grants a special nickname
- when you build the Third Temple, you get an actual building

So fyi I made a mod "HaMashiakh: A Jewish Messiah Mod" that adds a Third Temple building and a Messiah trait (and some other things). I haven't added in the nickname yet.

It's not compatible with your mod @Flint because of the other things I did. If you want to incorporate my code into this mod then please credit me and link to my mod in the description

A Joan-of-Arc event chain for a prophet is an *awesome* idea. I'll definitely put that into my mod :)

Ooh, I like the Hakhel idea!
The way I see the "Forming Israel grants a special nickname" idea is that there's no downside, so why not?
I got the getting an actual building from your mod, Lord_Daemonar.
The Joan_of_Arc event chain for a prophet is an idea I'm proud of. I think it would be really cool.

Hey mod can you add excommuniation feature and jewish monastic order? (copying stuff with different name would be fine enough) Also can you teach me how to make ourselves head of the religion? Like in islam or reformed norse paganism? I want to learn since there are many things to consider.

Excommunication is is already possible in this mod.

Not sure how to make d_jewish playable, and not sure if that is what you want. You probably need to tell the game that it is feudal and not a theocracy. You will find very good documentation for your modding needs on ck2.paradoxwikis.com.

I have few
1. A mod, cant remember which one, had nice trait called "yehudi" giving opinon boost for being born from jewish mother. This idea can also be developed in succesion requirment
2. Opinion malus from christians shall add more "flavour" i think
3. Dibbuk possession as new supernatural event, though it suits ashkenazim mostly
4. Learning Torah as theo lifestyle event
5. New bloodlines? Perhaps something related to the lost tribes of Israel
6. Losing piety and prestige if marrying to adepts of another religion
7. And some traits such as talmudist/special trait for mystic/ and tzadik (this one could be used the same way as christian's saint bloodline)
Well that's all came to mind; also could you please fix menu crash after hitting button "back"?
And i'll not be a proper jew, if i miss the opportunity for some offtop: what about compatibility with visual and CoA and artifact mods? Since many are using them including myself.
Btw, Jewish kings is great, hope for even more improvements!

^ I agree with whats above. Also adding a society or two and the ability to form multiple holy orders that also depends on culture

add the Rabbi of Bohemia (forgot the name) but he was a jewish priest in court of charles the 4th and his good friend. as the story goes he build a large Golem out of clay and gave him a magic heart. the Golem then helped the villages and people around, but he had the heart he had was made out of a scroll which needed to be replaced every day, but one day rabbi forgot to change it and the Golem went mad destroying his surroundings. Rabbi has stopped him from destroying the town but the golem was no longer welcome so the rabbi destroyed him. Yeah it might be too fantasy but its traditional czech story which depicted our great ruler and a jewish priest as friends and the priest being so smart he build a golem. it could be fun event chain if you are a Bohemian ruler. what do you think? i think Bohemians playing this mod would love it
Lord_Daemonar 10 Jan, 2019 @ 7:27am
@smrtak55 there are a few different rabbis credited with creating golems. The most well-known (and possibly earliest is Rabbi Eliyahu of Chelm, Poland, in the 1500s. I haven't heard of a Bohemian Czech rabbi making one, though.

Its in CK2+ for one and IMO really fits the mod. Marrying gentile women with no penalties. Maybe make so w/o that trait, the AI wont consider marriages. What I find ironic is that right now all my close kin have Mirza or Sayyid

The issue I am currently having is that with no matri marriage, there is no way to "collect" bloodlines. Only option is "forged". A bit generic.

Need "Invite Settlers" for all provinces in your demense. I'm currently between a rock and a hard place. Possibly issues are exacerbated by another mod. Have tribal holdings, cant upgrade to castles until religion changes. Priest only does 1% a year. Doesnt seem to have any effect. One county is pagan so my liege is also converting which negates my efforts. My only way of converting is to move the capital, spend 400 gold and then wait for next ruler to rinse and repeat.

a system like saints that activates after rebuilding the temple (or before it, realistically the lack of a temple hasn't stopped jews from declaring people this) based around the concept of tzadikim
