Possible Sanhedrin Event Ideas/Discussion
Hey man, I really love the sanhedrin events because of the challange they add to the game (plotting to assasinate people is a truly big task now). However, since I'm not good at event modding- I thought I could give some suggestions for new sanhedrin events:

1. Having the homosexual trait/charged with deviancy (death by stoning, you could make an event where a character discovers someone has the homosexual trait and then the trial begins from that)

2. wounding one's own parent (death by strangulation/garotte- mabye make this for people with kinslayer trait or who wounded their parent in a duel)

3. Having the mystic trait/accused of heresy (death by stoning, falls under witchcraft- again an event where someone finds out could happen and the trial begings)

4. having a father or mother (who is also jewish) with a negative opinion of you (mabye like -50 or just being a rival, death by stoning because of the "rebellious youth and cursing one's own parent laws)

5. being independent and then swearing fealty to a non-jewish ruler (death by beheading, closest I can imagine to "city that has been lead astray)

6. Imprisoning another jewish character (or at least had israelite culture, death by strangulation/garotte)

(P.S. making a discussion thread about this since it was too big to put in comments)

Good ideas. I will see what I can do.

Sorry to be rude, but can Sanhedron events also be positive, such as making it no longer seen as evil to be homesexual(the Torah never actual gives the death penalty for being homosexual and a possible reading is a ban on anal sex bewteen two men in which case there is still no death penalty) or an event increasing the roles of women? Sorry to be rude

Sorry to be rude but just saying something about the Sabhedron: Judaism is supposed to be a religion that changes with modern times, the Torah states that you should "go to the judges of your time" the sanhedron existed to change laws so that it would be modern for the times and nake sense. The reason Orthodox Judism is backwards sociall(this coming from an libral Orthodox Jew) is because there is no sanhedron to change the backwards kaw. The Sanhedron is an inherntly libral orginization for whatever time its in(obvouisly it can change depending on who's in it but it is supposed to look forward/ at the present, not the past). Sorry if this was ranting

No need to be sorry for contributing to the discussion. Nevertheless, in principle I am going to have to disagree with you. The Torah clearly puts a death penalty on homosexual acts (read Leviticus 20:13). Also, the Sanhedrin is not supposed to be as liberal as many people would like to believe. Yes, historically executions by the Sanhedrin were rare because of practical problems, but in principle they considered it a proper punishment for certain crimes. You are right that the Sanhedrin has to look forward to the times, but an example of that would be something like deciding whether or not a new technology can be used on the Sabbath. The crimes relating to my Sanhedrin events such as adultery, murder and homosexuality were historically recognised as sinful long before the Sanhedrin was even formed. To suggest that in a later time the Sanhedrin can come and say that these things are no longer sinful is unrealistic.

However, I do see your point. It seems to me that currently the Sanhedrin in my mod seems like a brutal execution cult. If you have any ideas on some possible positive events that would make the Sanhedrin helpful for the player, I would like to hear them. Thanks again for your interest in my mod. :ambition:

Thank you for being understanding. But the Gamara does try and make execution impossible. Also the decision of the new technology on shabbos and alike is a decision for the rabbis. The Sanhedron existed to change the laws created by the Rabbis of the Gamara. They also have pretty much free reign on reinterpriting the torah. So a Samhedron can deem homosexuality no longer sinful, and if they existed with modern people in charge of it the Sanhedron would probably make such a desicion, but you are right that a Sanhedron in medieval times would not do so. As for positive ideas I am laking right now but one could be that women can inherit titles if there is no son (according to the Torah women can do this with property)

Ideas for Sanhedron: Making being gay no longer punishable by death, freeing prisoners ( negative for you but morally positive), someone fining you, or you fining someone and the Sanhedron making the decision, allowing women to be on the counsel (spymaster, marshal, etc) there is a history of women leaders in Judism so it's not out of the question (Devorah the Judge was also the head of the army).

Sorry did I do something wrong?

What are you talking about? I just stopped responding to you because I couldn't come up with a good response.

sorry, im bad with people and anxuis ingore what i said
what about if your character has good relations with the sanhedron then he will talk about how you are a shining example of a good moral person increasing stability in the realm, and getting a small boost in piety and prestige? and maybe the opposite can be true but for both it would either require high relations like maybe +70 and like -50 respectively

and heres the normal non religious jew with the best compromise: make being gay and other sins and diseases and whatnot, healable, with the help of the sanhedrin. that way the sanhedrin will become useful, being gay will stop being punishable by death, everyone is happy.

The "An eye for an eye" thing was never interpreted literally, at least not by mainstream Judaism. In practice what they do is that the perpetrator of the crime must compensate the victim monetarily for the medical costs, lost wages due to injury, pain, embarassment and everything else. I'm not sure how I can implement something like this. I like the idea of piety and prestige boosts from good relations with the Sanhedrin. Something based on this principle might be possible.

Right so: nlinzer is completely right, the Talmud instituted an immense number of procedural hurdles to the Sanhedrin that made is effectively impossible to execute anyone basically ever for these sins. Yes, they're sins - but no, sinners won't ever be executed for them.
Can you please not implement events that (1) goes against actual Jewish history & law, (2) and make us seem like barbaric monsters?
