Storage amount number not updating - "haul to stack" conflict?
UPDATE:
Seems to be "haul to stack" that causes some weird behavior when colonists try to "merge stacks" on a storage.

Original post:

When pawns haul items to skips and similar, the sum of its contents does not get updated, saving and loading updates the number, and the items are properly stored and usable by pawns though.

Mod conflict or bug?

1000+ hours in game and I haven't run into issues with the count not being accurate - outside of a mod conflict long ago (r18?). The fact that the count does update on load shows that the core display logic is working, but that it is the only time indicates that something (another mod) is preventing the screen from updating or the dynamic re-calculation from firing.
I should probably add, that it also updates whenever resources are subtracted from the given storage.

It also started happening recently, so I could try and gradually disable recently added mods to try and locate the culprit.

Though I have a lot of mods, extended storage has been behaving fine with at least around ~150 other mods, so I will give it a shot and come back with my findings :).

Just wanted to ask first, you never know if it could have been a recent mod change after all.
No worries, ES development is very ... measured, it doesn't update often.

Weird thing about the no update on addition, but updates on subtraction. Definitely check your log (if you're in dev mode) immediately after a pawn deposits a stack onto a ES building to see if there's a red/yellow entry about it.
I also checked that to make sure before posting, but nothing pops up, sooo I will have to check my mods. I did go through the comments on the modpage too, and someone did mention the exact same problem a few months back (if I remember correctly), but no one replied to it, hence the discussion thread.
Small update:

After disabling a bunch of mods, I am now experiencing something new. Now, it updates every time something is stored, but it is like it is "delayed", so it updates to what it should have displayed last time someone added stuff to the storage.

Pile still gets updated properly when items are picked up from a stack though.

I will continue until I have normal behaviour, then slowly re-enable mods.
Observation:

The UI counting all your resources is also affected by this problem.

Update:

After disabling more mods, and more testing, it seems to be way more random now. Some times, the storage does not update, but the UI does. Sometimes, the storage updates fine, but the UI does not. Sometimes, it works just as intended and everything updates as it is supposed to, regardless if there is already stuff in storage, and without loading a save.

Main mods I have disabled are mods that change colonist behavior for picking up and storing items.

Will keep reducing mod load order further.

Update:

Noticing that it seems to be a problem that colonists will store the item, updating the number fine, but then quickly pick some up, store it in the cell next to the "sum" area, but still on the storage, which then doesn't update the number correctly.

Colonists will on occasion also store a separate stack "underneath" the sum stack.

!Culprit found, I think

After testing around, it seems like "haul to stack" is causing issues for me. Weird, cause I am pretty sure I have used this with storage extended in the past... odd...

Hmmm. Poking around the HtS mod listing shows he knows of some minor incompatibilities with ES but the author is not sure he can work around them. You might want to drop by there and ask around. I'm just another rando contributor around here, and my C# skills are nearly zero, so I don't think I can be much direct help.
Hmm, I see the author also states it doesn't work well with "pick up and haul", something I have also been using for a long time. Maybe "haul to stack" isn't as necessary when having these large storage units with higher priority. I guess I have just been used to having them all running and didn't notice any super odd behaviors until now. Thanks for the chat though, maybe this info could be useful to have on this mods compatibility list, at least until the incompatibility gets addressed, if we are lucky of course.

I'll add it to the Unofficial FAQ, thanks for all the leg work! GL, HF
