About your trench warfare example : most of the time it is already there from the start, so you don't have to research it. If you mean you need this because you chose to change your doctrine tree, then yes this is justified. At least because changing your whole Army habits and training method take time (a lot more than 600 days in peacetime, in fact).
In AS those doctrines are far more powerfull than in vanilla but also longer to research, indeed. You may have noticed too that many land doc research bonus has been added + many ministers add research boost + national spirits etc...
This tweak is part of the global AS balance system, so don't worry.
Actually, you rarely have to research a new land doc in "600 days". There are so many ways to get bonus...
