Memory usage question
Hello. I a apologize in advance as this has probably already been explained.

My question is the top number (RAM) vs. the bottom number (Virtual or whatever it's called).

My numbers near the end of loading my city are like 11.4 and 21.7. Would the 11.4 number go up the bigger my city gets (My city is pretty small)? And I only have 16 gigs of RAM. If I don't have a fast hard drive should I be trying to unsubscribe from a lot of assets to get the bottom number below 16 gigs?

If you add more assets or your city becomes more complex, virtual memory usage will increase from 21.7. RAM usage, on the other hand, will likely decrease because Windows tends to punish processes that are using too much RAM. Eventually the RAM usage will slip below 10 GB and loading becomes very slow.

For 16 GB RAM, I recommend keeping the virtual memory usage at 20 GB or below. You can use more if you want, but loading will become slow and at some point the game crashes.

So the "peak" means that this much RAM is needed (the higher number) to load everything into this game, but thanks to the OS, something gets unloaded and loads only when needed during game (so until I really use all the assets, I should not get to that number)?
Of course, I guess that size of the city (meaning number of used buldings, props, citizens...) has some impact too, but probably not so high (just text/number information for each one, including reference to the graphics, but not the graphics itself).

@Mvek "Peak" means maximum over time, so that's different.

To summarize:
Virtual memory usage is how much memory the game wants.
RAM usage is how much memory the game gets (from the OS).

So, RAM usage is always lower than virtual memory usage, and also lower than your RAM capacity.

Yes, I have noticed that the RAM usage is few GBs lower than the physical RAM in my computer.

Well, I wonder if I find a way to lower my virtual to 20 or less with current 26 GB:-). Especially if after several attempts to reduce the amount of assets, I managed to reduce the number, but increased the used memory by half a gigabyte:-). It is bad if you remove few small props, but add a mod taking who knows how much... Poor world with so many choices:-).

I believe there is another mod to sort assets by size in game by triangles, etc. I have that mod, but not sure if it actually states how much memory each asset takes.

@rovaira2 It is not really possible to tell how much memory an asset takes. But you can compare assets quite reliably (by comparing the file sizes).

Do you know if a mod or asset disabled in the vannila Content Manager is taking a memory or not? I would expect NO, but in some guides it was mentioned that it takes memory too.

(Even though my biggest problem now is CPU probably due to Real Time etc.)

@Mvek If an asset is disabled and not loaded, it takes very little memory. Only what is required for displaying it there. And when a map loads, the game does its best to kick Content Manager contents out of memory.
