Hello DoktorApplejuice.

Long Question short, how do you add a unique unit to your civilizations? What programs do you use, how do I set up the coding, etc.?

I am creating a mod, and I have the core of it done. All I have left to do is insert the model. However, I can't get the model to appear in game to save my life. I've looked all over the web, but most of the links are either outdated or simply no longer exist. I've dissected a dozen mods with unique units (including yours) to understand the coding, but still no luck.

I'm honestly running out of options, but I don't want to quit this close to completing my mod.

Can you help me?

Are you looking to create a unit model from scratch, or do you have a model, and you're just having issues implementing it?

I have the model. I am just having issues implementing it. Long story short, I am creating a star wars mod, and I am trying to insert a battled droid. I have the 3D model of the droid in maya. However, I have just completely and utterly failed in my attempts to put it in the game.

Just to note, I wasn't going to try and animate the droid (I don't have that kind of time). I just wanted to put the model in the game so when you build the unit, you can see it in the game (even if it doesn't have an animation to it).

I'm not sure if animation is a requirement in order to put the model in the game. I suppose you would know however.

P.S. Thanks for replying. I am honestly running out of options.

Ah. Well, I unfortunately have no experience implementing a brand new unit model into the game; only replacing the 2D texture files of a unit model that others have made.

However, from what I have gathered from a few of my modding friends who DO implement their own models (like Nomad Or What, who made the base model that the Sailor Senshi uses), you do in fact need animations.

Here are a few tutorials that I've found that may be useful:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=511396 (this one says it's for implementing Civ 4 unit models, but based on my understanding, most of the steps are the same, as long as you do have your own model)

I would recommend signing up for Civ Fanatics (the forum site that all those links are from) if you haven't already, and asking around there. There are a lot of experienced modders there, and hopefully someone can help you better than I can.

How do you make a mod? I've been thinking about making one for the anime "Death Note."
