I know what it's based on! (Weapons Trivia)
Based on the WW2 Japanese "Type 10" Flare Gun. The thing was a cut weapon in Far Cry 3 already, but I must say that - despite minor adaptions for the pyro like the longer barrel with grip and the more rectangular hammer - it bears striking resemblance to its spiritual role model. Especially the "Mauser-esque" Wooden Grip and the widened shell casing mound in the barrel breech are quite telling.

Excellent modeling, Beautifully textured. Also to point out: The barrel was indeed made out of another metal in some cases, especially at the end of the war the grip piece was made out of stamped rather than forged steel.

Excellent work in identification. If you haven't already, you should check out the IMFDB. It'd be a great site for someone that likes doing this sort of thing.
