Pointers for modeling
I am looking into modding for Ark making new items and weapons in particular. I am downloading blender since its free and I read through the post in the discussions. I have limited experience with modding and absolutely no experience with making my own models but I really want to get into it and make some mods for Ark and I really need a new hobby. I have some really cool ideas I have been thinking about as I have been playing Ark and have thought of some items that me and a few friends would really like in game but I want to actually make my own models or alter models so the items look as cool as they are to use in game. Could you help give me some pointers on how to start making my own models and some good tutorials for using blender? Im really determined to figure this out so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Awesome thank you! Tips from other beginners are usually more useful than from the experts!

Hey Doc I had a quick question. in the article you wrote something about .obj files and needing a "paid" copy of Blender or use of other free software. Although I am far from ready to start importing/exporting (im just playing with blender atm to get used to the controls and interface and make some simple 3d shapes to get a feel for it) I noticed that Blender is open source and free and I couldn't find a "paid" copy for it, where do I find the full version with all the tools or are they now included in blender?

That was SketchUp, another 3D drafting program that you need the paid version to export as .obj. If you are building straight from blender you can export as FBX right into ADK. When you export FBX files from blnder into UE4 or ADK you need to change some settings on the export page or you will get a smoothing error in unreal.

Do you know where I can find some information specifically for making new items and engrams in the dev kit? I have been spending about 2 to 4 hours a day learning blender but now I want to start learning the dev kit so I can make the items I want to use the models for but I can only seem to find tutorials for making maps. :/

Shrykull send me a message, I just learned blender and have been working on some personal assets. I am by no way a pro in any capacity but have no issues giving you some tips will be a good way to help solidify my working knowledge.
