Regarding zombies' tracking capabilities, they can be limited with the 'Max Detection(misleading) Distance' module to about 50m iirc. This helps but it's more or less a workaround as we haven't implemented a LOS check just yet (This was sumn we were working on lately though).
Regarding zombies not slowing down when e.g. shot in the leg with a 50 cal, it's mostly an ArmA 3 limitation we can't really bypass.
Kind regards,
Sanchez
Just looked and noticed aparently they have removed damage localization on AI. Ok, maybe I should be asking Bohemia WTH on that one.
Zombies appearing from no place.
I've seen it on two maps so far on two different ran servers by different admins.
One place I went in checked the area came out and a place I just passed with no other way in suddenly a zombie appears. I backed out of the area. Grabbed a vehicle and started driving around the next 10 minutes in that area killing zombies that appeared.
No it is simply because the zombies are appearing after the player is in the area.
A better practice would be as I said above to have a set number that are spawned when a player gets close to the area. Have a 30 minute or so refresh on it so if they kill those off they have time to loot and so on. If they pass by you can use the distance check to clear them off so they don't take up server resources.
The zombies need LOS and distance break. I mean unless you are trying to create a bunch of evil super beings. Then it becomes like fighting a bunch of boss level class monsters that continually spawn with none of the benefits or loot from doing so.
I don't mind having to run into an area and grab and dash trying to avoid zombies in the area. I just don't like the issue of more and more of them suddenly appearing simply because I am there.
Hell even if it was something like a mass grave you could see where they where rising up out of. Or maybe you could douse it with gas and set it on fire to stop the spawn temporarily it would make some sense. Otherwise every zombie in an area a player should be able to pretty much account for.
I wouldn't mind a zombie in a town screaming and attracting other zombies that spawned naturally near by.
But in short spawns shouldn't happen after a player is in proximity unless it can be accounted for such as a corpse rising up.
Anyway that's my two cents. For now I'll find other servers to play till I see the issues are fixed. And yes I'll ♥♥♥♥♥ at Bohemia for it's issues as well.
Just got to wonder why so many make same bad choice.
The all-seeing omniscient zombies are so, because if they spawn in a horde they are in a group and then the ArmA AI hops in and tells any groupmember the exact position cuz AI.
I always do veery low hordes (max 10.) a horde respawn rate of a few minutes and a spawn activation high enough to prevent the issue you were facing + multiple spawners + high spawnrange (that thing that moves zombies around a specific area when they spawn) so it does not occur very often
Get a friend in a helicopter and have him watch you and a zombie. Get close enough to it to agro then run and doesn't matter how far you go. If the zombie doesn't lock on something else it will keep coming after you. Like I said above they can figure out what floor you are one what room you are in never seeing you.
They should have put a tracking range on zombies at minimal along with LOS but they haven't not that I can tell.
Seems the only way I have been ablet o break their lock is to drop to loby and get back on.
Couple this with the graphics engine ancient architecture causing crap frame rates it is just getting to annoying. Bohemia is running basically the same engine for what was directx5 and so on or opengl 1.2. They seriously need to update the garbage.
I stopped playing 4 days back.
