presision, select axis, grab one end, attach it, grab the other attach it, set it to stay upright, boom, your done

My method is freezing the coupling rod, all the wheels attached to the train, and attaching the coupling rod via axis tool, then unfreezing the wheel I just put the coupling rod on, rinse & repeat.
