In general, I'll add the gmod preset editor (known from other tools and addons) so you can easily switch between your preferred configurations.
To answer your question: If I add SCK-models to the addon, which I'll probably do, then you'll be able to change the sfw_custom's skin like any other option.
I once created a "weapon" that emits shields and was also able to palce slowly decaying forcefields. But it was so extremely buggy and stuff, that I decided not to release it yet.
But I'll give it a second look and maybe add it to the pack.
1) Alt-fire mode, which fires a grenade and it deploys a cloud of smoke on touch.
2) Proximity mines deployer. Maybe it will shoot explosive spikes, which will explode, when somebody is near (include you)
3) If you can develop a bullet penetration, you can make Railgun, which can shoot through props 'n stuff
4) Flamethrower FTW
5) Homing missile launcher?
6) Taser (lol)
7) Grappling hook mode for alt-fire
That's all for now. Hope to see thing listed above in near future.
Oh, and i forgot about presets for custom weapon designer. Add them sometime.
the more you know, eh. as a side note a pulse rifle like UT/Quake/Doom that doesn't explode or bounce but fires slow moving projectiles would be cool. unless that pulse cannon and the shotgun you have in the mod were attempts at it in which case i suggest for an update to them you make them have a cool effect that lets you see the shots travel, like with the Trace
Most of my weapons use physical projectiles which do have travel time. The only exceptions are the Pulsar and some of the custom's weapons systems.
Tell me if I'm wrong, but you'd like to see a weapon, that does not deal aoe damage / does not use the point_hurt entity but hast travel time, right?

A proximity mine sounds like a nice idea. The thing with bullet penetration or a rail gun or something is also possible... But nasty... I'll create some concepts and see how far it gets.
The thunderbolt is supposed to become a flamethrower like thing. Obviously it doesn't throw flames right now. But I'm adding more firemodes with different elements like fire, ice and poison to it.
