Maybe it's because the logical color for the gun itself would have then been white, and he/she didn't think it looked as nice that way.

Regardless, the reason for said twist isn't exactly stated.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. The creator included a progress image of the pattern, and on it is a skull pattern including red roses, and a skull that is greenish. Not exactly white.
How do you know it will look teriable with gold? It doesn't hurt the author to try it
This is my personal opinion though, and based entirely on my own subjective perception of what "looks nice".
