In my personal opinion, I think marking your vehicle could be fine, provided it's erased every time you change vehicles and updated to the new one, and that the marking is erased automatically if the vehicle goes too many days without being used, thus maintaining the importance of the vanilla map functions.
As for the zombies... I think that would be very OP; if you knew where the zombies were at all times, it would break the essence of the game. As a fan of realism, I think the best thing for that area would be to simply use the visual sound indicator mod. This way, you only get a vague idea of the zombies near your position, and you can keep track of them in a more fair and meaningful way.
1) Lock the main map and link it to a new item like "Knox Map" or "GPS" to use it. This would allow access to a fully unlocked and known map or satellite view depending on the item in the main inventory. When the item is left, the main map would lock again until the item is retrieved (something like the map function in Unturned).
(It would also make sense to link it to the minimap this way, making it only visible when you have one of the two items, or making it disappear completely if you don't have either.)
2) After completing the first step, differentiate between the map items themselves. That is, if you change maps or GPS, the symbols you have saved will disappear, and then return when you retrieve the item you were previously using to mark them.
3) Finally, in addition to setting spawn points based on where you could find maps or GPS, add a battery drain feature to the GPS so that it gradually wears down with use, becoming unusable once the battery runs out until it is replaced with a new one to function as before.
