You're looking for the Tokai Hatamoto, which are the elite of elite troops, they spawn at Tier 5 and have the most OP upgrade path in the whole mod, since they can be used as gunners, archers, spearmen, horse cavalry or regular cavalry, so getting them is basically the ultimate bet-hedging for what you need more of.

You can find them at any village or town with Tokai culture, which puts them in the area between, but not including, Odawara and Kiyosu, the villages and towns in that region between those two towns all can spawn Tokai Hatamoto. Be warned, recruiting each Tokai Hatomoto will cost you a lot of money, and their skills reflect their salary as well, they are Tier 5/6 units after all, so unless you've got a reliable income stream, don't try to make a full stack of them, and be prepared to weep as a line of gun troops open fire on your expensive units and reap a nasty body count.

It hurts. Now I understand why samurai hated guns so much, there is no honour.

Elite Kanto heavy cavalry will mow down Hatamoto. The tier 6 stats for Hatamoto are actually quite average.

I've found that in Shield Wall the Hatamoto are pretty decent for stabbing at cavalry and messing them up, but usually that's after I've harassed the cavalry like crazy, so yeah.
