It sounds like it's more to do with the Guitar Wall Hanger mod, as that handles the hanging logic... but let's get this fixed!
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "where paintings are supposed to be...".
Did they spawn over the paintings? Are they vanilla paintings or from another mod?
It should be detecting if anything is already on a wall before spawning there, and thus ignore that wall. And it shouldn't be trying to spawn in rooms that you've already loading in before.
The fact that you had already been to the inn and removed the paintings, and then left, but the guitars spawned the next time is slightly concerning.
The mod should be doing - discover building, if not spawned any guitars then mark as complete in modData and never try that building again. But maybe there could be the [rare] instance where that doesn't happen properly the first time.
