The problem is with the game applying the shading for the body and the wings.
So, go load up the appearance editor for one of the old dragons. Copy it. Paste it onto the baby. This will give the baby working shading. Now, revert EVERYTHING else, but leave the body and wing shading. You can then change their body/wing shading how you like.
This is how I fixed the 3 dragons from the Pentos eggs that all hatched without their wing and body shading.
