Why many mods, including this one, require texture compression set to OFF?

Ghost trees

At first everything was okay, but as time went on, transparent trees started appearing on the roads, and now on the territory of my base. If you approach them, they disappear, you can't cut them down. After disabling the mod they disappeared.

Oh.. So that's what it was. I had the same issue, but had no idea it was caused by this mod.
