The Path of Suffering

I'm havinf trubble finding out how to open the trap door under the sign that says Path of Suffering in the Crypt. Help!

Ahhhhh. Thank you. Stopped looking in the room and found it... But wow, quite hard. Is the Path of Suffering mandatory or optional?
