Scrap Mechanic

Universal Replacer

What situation does this mod remove bearings, pistons, and suspension?
Due to developing trouble, the Universal Replacer can not replace bearings and such after a block conversion. Why, and whats the limits?

The way Scrap Mechanic construction in done, is that you have the base (car frame), which has the bearings off of that (the tires)(sub-part 1). something attached to the tires (hub spinner) would be Sub-part 2.

The Universal Replacer doesnt DO sub-parts. If its attached to the rest via bearing, piston, or suspension, its a loose block now

Due to the URs abilities, ANY block that matches the target block is replaced. If the replaced block has a sub-part item attached (bearing, piston, etc etc), the sup-part item is removed. Thats a loose part group now!

So, TLDR, when using this mod, if a block is converted, AND it has a bearing, piston, or suspension attached, whatever was on the other end is no longer a part of the creation and is now loose.
There are no notable range limitations, there is no difference if you dont put it on the base, the tire, or several bearings (or etc) away, if it is ON the creation at all, and it matches the target block or part, it will be converted.

As a fix that also qualifies as a QOL feature (at least in my opinion), convert only the target material connected directly to the target block. Essensially, if detect bearing or similar, STOP SCAN, NEXT STEP. Not only would this make for more targeted conversions, but should open the door for NOT destroying bearings (or etc)

This fix would allow the conversion of a homemade tire without converting the sunroof made of the same material, or converting your mobile base from scrapwood to tier1 metal without disassembling your controller engine

The thing is that i can replace suspension and bearings and such but I don't have the time to do that. So maybe after my new mod that I am making, I'll attempt to find a way to fix the issues with joints and such being broken, thanks for the info though!

also there is a replace by color option if you were to crouch U on it btw!

sorry, i *could* replace joints and such but its also not a bad idea to do a stop and next step sort of idea

If you try to swap the base, it works fine, IF there are NO bearings, suspension, or pistons attached.... thats a mouthfull

from here on, Bearings, Pistons, and Suspension are knows as Parts. There, terminology fixed. Mouthful diminished, and fingers saved.

So if the swapper is converting a build in general, it needs to have NO Parts attached to it. Doesnt seem to matter where on the build the swapper is placed, it wont work unless ALL Parts are removed first.

So, net positive, i'd say: no more having to re-craft bearings and pistons anymnore, due to them being consumed by the aether!

By "STOP SCAN, NEXT STEP", i was talking about being able to convert a door without converting the base, and visa-versa. Being able to do a conversion of sections of a build by targeting specific.... chunks..... (like a door) i think would be a great idea. Avoid the whole Parts issue you seem to be fighting with, while conserving the base functionality, AND improving QOL all at the same time!

After this is done, making a button (like U, or maybe Y, since keeping the color filter sounds good) for swapping the build as a whole could be tackled, or just left as-is at that point.
