Hindu-Norse religion
So far the religion will look like this:

Indian religious group
intermarriage with Hindu/Jain/Buddhists
Divorces
Priests can marry and inherit
Female priests
Designate heirs
River movement/raiding
Consorts
Normal short reign penalty
No head of religion
Holy sites same as Hindu, control gives 30% retinue size boost
Runestones
Instead of Great Blots, Kali Diwali feasts with human sacrifice

Event to enable/switch to Hindu-Norse happens randomly after melting pot culture conversion.
I am not quite sure on castes, but if I leave them out there's an opinion penalty.

I would say you should do castes. if its Hindu-Nores then castes make sense. If you do use castes then I think that you should get the option when you convert to become Kashatri (probably botched the spelling there) since its so hard normaly. Also i think that it should have patron dieties, maybe use three nores ones (Odin, Thor, and Freyja maybe) and three of the more warlike Hindu ones.
Prepared invasion please?

I already know how to apply castes based on holding type. I'll wait on the patch to see how they handle patron deities first before I look at that.

No, I don't think Viking invasions make sense. You're way off the known routes for Vikings to hear your call; it's very far away from home, and once you're landed in India you're too big to use them anyway.

Custom rulers...

Give your custom ruler norse reformed and he can still do it. I really don't think that makes sense for a hindu/norse.
I would honestly like to see a head of religion, if not because its a call to what the vanilla norse could become, but because it makes it unique out of the 3 indian religions/

I think the Norse would have to have experience with head of religions by dealing with others all the time. I doubt they would just adopt them or create them out of the blue. Remember that once you move out of Europe, there are no heads of religion. I simply doubt it makes sense.

I'm assuming CBs will be the standard Hindu ones; i.e, subjugate same culture group dharmics (this would make which culture group the melting pot cultures are part of important) and holy wars against non-dharmics. That would mean no pagan subjugation and no county conquest or coastal county conquest. I feel that it would be appropriate to leave those out for balance and other reasons.

I am concerned that the ability to designate heirs would be overpowered and inappropriate, as that feature is normally reserved for the less-expansionist Jains and Buddhists.

Why Holy sites same as hindu? Would be better to mix a bit and add a few unique ones, no? Probably around the coast/rivers. Probably one in the Maldives as a a nod to the bookmark start.

Yes they are not getting the pagan cbs, only the Indian ones.

I am all ears for suggestions!

Id suggest not allowing divorces or designated heirs, in line with the other dharmic religions and hindus respectively. I would also give them castes, with an option to join the proper caste based on your holding type when you change religions, as suggested upthread. Oh and the reincarnation events. Also patron deities would be good too. You could use the hindu ones as a template and substitute the best norse equivalents, which might help narrow down some holy sites as you could then use a major centre of worship for the linked hindu gods. You could also just use some major norse gods and fill in the rest with a few of the more ferocious hindu gods. Everything else on the list looks pretty good though.

Two out of three existing religions have designated heirs and I was thinking the Norse would think that useful, but I am not really married to that idea. Speaking of which, I don't mind divorces either way, considering concubines.

Reincarnation's automatically on for Indian religions, I nearly forgot about that but planned to leave it as is.

Trying to find gods that complement each other's a bit tricky, but I think Odin/Indra at least is a shoo-in. Both are fathers of the gods and gods of war. The main difference is Odin likes poetry while Indra has too much fun controlling the weather himself to give it to a son of his.

On the designated heirs thing, try it out with it in, if its not too unbalanced, then keep it in. I was only worried that it might give the Indo-Norse too much of an edge.

Regarding the gods, I found the same thing with Odin/Indra when I was having a look at comparing the pantheons. I think linking Odin/Shiva actually works, leaving Thor/Indra as a pretty decent fit. Freyr/Vishnu, while a bit of a stretch would also work.

From a purely Norse perspective the patron deities will be Odin, Thor, Freyr, Freyja, Njodr, and Tyr.
I am not sure if I will create some amalgated names from Hinduism yet.

I don't think we should try and force matches for vishnu/shiva/brahman but just look which gods fit best.

Indra/Thor for example are indeed good equivalents. Both are thunder gods and fight serpents.

You could argue Saraswati and Odin are good fits but I am not sure.
Same with Freyr and Lakshmi.

Njodr and Varuna are pretty good matches I think, as are Tyr/Karttikeya.

Freyja meanwhile ???

Please don't get hung up on sex differences, Hindu gods reincarnate!
