It seems that if you talk to the first bartender after you already have the shield, he gets stuck in the first dialogue option. You cannot progress the Easter egg if this happens.

Thanks again for reporting this. I have uploaded a patch that fixed this issue. Let me know if you see anything else.

You can crouch and glitch into the bar area in the room with speed cola.
