HOW TO START DRILLING
HOW TO START DRILLING
  1. Ensure that the deck in front of the drilling derrick is clear/safe and that the wellhead is in good working order and is sitting just under the rotary table.
  2. Use the WASD keys to lower the drill rod magnet to the drill rod rack and click the left mouse button to pick up one of the drilling rods.
  3. Move the drill rod magnet and the drill rod up as much as you can, then move it to the right so that it goes all the way to the mechanism with the rod connector and rotary table, the rod will eventually settle inside those two wedges just above the rotary table and rod connector.
  4. Slowly lower the rod into the rod connector and rotary table using the S key until it can't go any further.
  5. Left click to release the rod, move the rod magnet to the left and pick up another rod and repeat the above two steps.
  6. Eventually one of the rods won't lower any further down using the S key, this is a sign that it's connected to the Wellhead underneath and the ropes holding the Wellhead are fully taut.
  7. Use the 1 key to slowly lower the well head and the S key to keep lowering the rod until it can't go any further i.e. it should stop when it hits the connector/rotary table. Remember to left click to release the rod from the rod magnet before you try to move it again.
  8. Repeat the above steps until the Wellhead reaches a depth where it's about 5-10M away from the seabed.
  9. Turn on the Rotary table (You can do this after you reach the seabed but I prefer to do it slightly before).
  10. Once the Wellhead gets within 0.5M of the seabed it should automatically anchor itself to the ground. You don't have to worry about lowering it anymore using the 1 key, you only need to use the S key now after adding a drilling rod. If you haven't done so already you can turn the pump-jack on.
  11. The drill should now start to slowly bore it's way through the seabed, but depending on the seed used in your game - you might strike oil instantly, if not just keep lowering the rod while it's drilling and replace the rod as necessary, same as before.
  12. Eventually you'll strike oil - you can tell that this has happened when the alarm goes off and you see oil spraying out the top of the pump-jack. You can turn the alarm off using flip switch on the control console in front of you.
  13. The pump jack should now be extracting oil from the reservoir under the seabed so you can now safely turn off the rotary table. I personally like to drill down using at least one more rod, then slowly raise it up to one of the nearby sets of electrical connectors on the drilling derrick and then hit the button to lock the drilling assembly in place, as this stops it from wobbling every time the pump jack goes up and down, but this is just a personal preference and isn't necessary for it to work.
  14. Congratulations! You're now pumping oil.

A good seed to use to experiment with the Alwent South in custom/creative mode is 16517, as this places the rig base between the Meier and Sawyer islands where the seabed is only 70m below sea level and the oil reservoir is a mere 35m under it, you'll barely need more than half of the available drill rods that come with the rig.

Because it doesn't need one.

Watch the tutorial video if you're stuck and need help, or if you're a kid - ask one of your older family members that also plays Stormworks if you need assistance on how to use it.

Can I have video to help me
Captain Robertson  [developer] 18 Jul, 2023 @ 1:57pm
It already exists, the tutorial on how to drill and refine is the first video in the description, next to all the screenshots.

If it's too small on the Steam app then just watch the full version on my YouTube channel.

Thanks!

Glad to hear you enjoy using it, please feel free to also check out the other work that's been done by my fellow content creators mentioned in the credits as A54SS has a land-based rig that's quite similar and easy to use as well as an impressive range of trucks and transport vehicles, while CornFlaKs is currently working on an oil rig base that's shaping up to be even better than this one and has even released a 'Work in Progress' version of it on the Steam Workshop.

How to make drilling oil?

Je suis désolé, je ne parle pas très bien le français.
Essayez de regarder la vidéo du didacticiel avec les sous-titres de traduction automatique activés pour voir si cela vous aide?

where do i find the place
Captain Robertson  [developer] 30 Jul, 2023 @ 2:34pm
It's random for each player depending on the seed used for the game world, you'll need to search for it yourself until you find it.

Hint - Look for one of the black house icons with the dollar signs on them.
does it mater if i use electric or diesel furnace? or do i need to use both?
Captain Robertson  [developer] 24 May @ 10:57am
The newest version of this addon that was updated to work with the changes introduced in the Space DLC and Compressed Gasses update should only need the electric furnaces to be switched on. The diesel furnaces are now only for use when the outside temperature is exceptionally low, or you've accidentally added too much oil in the distillation tower.
