Technical advice
I put a proposal on the main mod page, but I have a bit of a technical question which might also play into that, potentially, especially if you don;t find my idea appealing. (Which I hope you do.)

So, I have been experimenting with mixing assets, but I have a peculiar obstacle in some of the mods I tried this. Let's say, I want to use the legs as shins - e.g., for very high boots, which normally go with a skirt, but I want to try fitting them over pants and see what sticks.

I edit the content ini to duplicate the item into the other category (Legs to Shins). But it is frequently the case that while the item appears in the new list, it is blank, invisible.Any idea why this would be?

I thought that it might be an incompatibility between lists, but then I have successfully made duplicates of, say, holsters, in legs, shins, and other categories.

Hey. I see what youre going for. Kexx's FCP has these as it substitutes shoes for the shins. And good to see youre experimenting. For me though, some of the shoes when adding as a separate item for shins, it does not fit nicely as the feet stick out of the shoes. For examble, Qing Ya's boots are high heeled. If I apply this as a shin option and apply with one of the leg options in the FCP, the feet are shown outside of the boots. That is why I was kinda hesitating on doing something like this.

Also this requires MORE than a config edit I am afraid. You'll need the SDK to create "Archetypes" within the mod to let the mod know to use Shins. It gets a bit more complicated but basically what you did is only HALF of the work. You need the SDK to make it implemented.

Side note, Im slowing down on modding so at best I can do bug fixes and other things. Im no longer interested in adding content to this mod (unless if its of dire need and/or popular request)...

It is a great pity you are scaling back. Understandable, but a pity nonetheless. The quality of these mods is really superior. But yes, there are other games to play, not to mention 'life', and all that goes on in it. :) It would be nice to see you return with a full-blown mod of some sort, or even some occasional additions at least, maybe versions of the peaked caps, which can be worn more conventionally, or something. But hey, who knows, maybe I'll master the SDK enough to play with those myself.

I get what you say about the feet poking out. I did not consider it this way. A rookie confusion on my part, really. I thought it would be kinda like the various props, but thinking about it more carefully, those are not part of the skeleton, as it were, they are external, so just duplicating them is enough. I can assign a new archetype to the item though, which should work. (I had a similar discussion with Xenesthis a couple of days ago, and this was his advice.) I'll need to make a bit of time to go through it all, and I need to submit my manuscript first, otherwise I won't be able to concentrate. One mistake, and I'll be reediting all my 500 soldiers. (Had this once, tried to copy the reaper's overcoat, screwed up, and all my pool were suddenly wearing the kaiserhelm, and had their clothing in alien overlay. :D)
