normal backstabs wouldn't grant any buff.
Also you can already stab someone and go invisible with every knife in the game. Do you suggest that you go invisible immediately after a backstab? If so that would not be a good idea since it'd be very annoying mechanic to fight against. You can't track the spy that goes invisible after a backstab.
I did consider this, but there's already a damage reduction while cloaked built into the stock watch, so I think more damage resistances would make it annoying to fight against, like the Kunai, since you could just cloak after getting a backstab and potentially tank a significant amount of damage.
I want to avoid things that make the spy tankier, since that's annoying to fight against.
The En Passant
Level X Knife
( + ) On Backstab: Transfer buffs, debuffs, passive abilities, and basic stats from your victims onto you.
( - ) Your movement is limited to moving straight ahead only, your other means of movement are only unlocked after a successful backstab.
(up to a maximum of 4 times).
So for a example of the upside, let's imagine you managed to backstab a scout with 70 health remaining also under the effect of a crit-a-cola using a 99% boosted baby face's blaster and with the sandman equiped.
You will then gain the remaining time from the effect of the crit-a-cola for yourself (with is downside of course) your maximum health will be set to 115 and your current health will be 70, you will move at 173% of your normal speed (or 519 Hammer units if you prefer) and gain 1 extra jump and +1 capture rate until you backstab someone else.
Now for the downside is pretty simple, after each backstab you manage to succesfully execute your movements keys will be less restrained:
(It will be display with a " Checkmate " counter similar to the Eyelander, Vita-Saw, Bazaar Bargain or Air Strike.)
0 Backstab: can only move forward.
1 Backstab: you can now move left, right and backward but only 1 key work at the time (so if you press left then forward you will only move slitly to the left then only forward).
2 Backstab: you can now crouch and move.
3 Backstab: you can now move diagonally and without anymore key restriction.
4 Backstab: you can now jump and move.
It's a simple snowball weapon.
Tell me what do you think about thoses stats.
Level ??? Chess Piece
Pros
On kill: All nearby enemies gain a 20% damage vulnerability for 8 seconds
Cons
-15 max health
33% faster cloak drain rate
that stat would make spy much more punishing, for example if a fail stab happens or when an enemy turns around at the last second.
to make this more punishing, maybe add a slower switch time. and while we are at it, maybe change the health lost on kill to a health penalty. if health is lost on kill, most players will be deterred from using the weapon.
also, i absoloutley love the design :)
+will not show that you kill someone
+when you back stab you gain full crit for 8 sec
+any time when you mini-crit you full crit
cons
-loss disguise when hit
-no randoms crits
10% move speed bonus
25% jump height bonus
-75% damage penalty
-30% slower swing speed
