how to get the hat
so when valve adds the hat(if) how do we know we will recive one if we donated.

It would appear under the item notification. (The warning symbol in the main menu.)

Through the spreadsheet, on tipofthehats, and also through the admin's of tipofthehats official group. *But thats the item donor's though.
They probebly have another spreadsheet for money, but thats hidden. Probebly...

You won't get the hat if you donated to the stream. You will have to buy the hat on the Mann Co Store, as was said during the stream if the hat is accepted.

It would be crazy for them to keep track of every single donation they took, they got hundreds of donations all happening at nearly the same time, all the time.

The purpose of the original stream donation was to get nothing in return, just donate for a good cause. The purpose of this hat is for people to purchase it on the Store and for the profits they receive to go to that good cause.
