took decades to load an ongoing save

we are at the final boss when both of us log off to get dinner. When I get back and start a lobby I am able to load the game swiftly my friend cannot, same thing happens when my friend host a lobby where I cannot load the save for 5 minutes. Is this just my/steam internet issue or sth is wrong?
