It was the most important roman labour force and one of the reasons of their fall (caused many economic issues since the Pax Romana). I think something more than just enable/disable? You could have claims to get more slaves, some bonuses and penalties on choosing it, etc.
I'd like something about choosing to stay with byzantium as your fellow romans or consider them rivals on the "renovatio imperii" too.
Religion related decisions (dismantling/consolidating papacy, restoring hedonism, etc) would also make sense
