Playable XCOM 2 Aliens For LWOTC

Acquiring Aliens for LWOTC players
(The Allies Unknown mod tanks LW2 and LWOTC hard, and so I have balanced this mod with the assumption that it won't be used.)

- Aliens can be acquired through Covert Actions. You won't typically get one right away but they show up quickly enough. Once you start seeing them, you should get at least one per month from one of your factions. The Covert Actions cannot fail and don't require soldiers of a particular rank, but they can still get injured. Also, you don't just GET the alien like you would an Engineer or Scientist; you have to do a mission that the Covert Action unlocks.

- As of the March 3rd 2021 update, the mission has been overhauled once again. It now uses the base game WOTC mission GatherSurvivors (a Resistance Ops mission). This is a proper Quick Response mission, which now uses a custom encounter list and lets you send up to 8 soldiers. XCOM starts the mission revealed. The Lost will also appear if you're at a high enough Force Level to encounter them. The alien is the primary VIP you need to rescue to succeed in the mission (be careful with them, they don't spawn with any plating, although they CAN help fight). There are also a couple of resistance operatives you can find in the mission who you can give orders to, but they do not join your crew as Rebels or Rookies even if you extract them. They have a standard Rookie loadout of Assault Rifle, Ceramic Plating, Frag Grenade and Flashbang. Once you make contact with the VIP, a fixed evac will appear on the map for your squad and rescuee(s) to extract. When the mission spawns, you have 4-5 days to address it or it will disappear. As long as you have the required [WOTC] Sensible Mission Penalties mod, you won't lose region contact if that happens.

- As of April 16th, 2021, in addition to the above mission, you can also get the WOTC versions of Rescue or Extract. These do not have custom spawn schedules at all.

- If you either can't do the Covert Op due to bugs, or otherwise just don't want to do it but still want to play with aliens, you can use console commands to spawn them into your barracks. Note that doing so will not allow them to get NCE rolls. (I don't actually know at this point.) They spawn at Squaddie rank. The commands are as follows:

  • AddAlienRecruit PA_Viper2 (this is not a typo, it needed to be done to ensure Viper Class Overhaul didn't do any hardcoded changes to this mod's Viper)

Can't say I've ever used that mod or thought about adding a Codex. As it is, the Sectoid already covers the Psionic niche, and even has access to some Codex tricks with proper animations as well (Psi Bomb + Teleport).

The best place to get it is the github releases. they're also pinned on the reddit.

So I cant get the mission to stat for this one.
I complete the covert action which pops the mission with less than a day to infiltrate. I'll send out my guys to infiltrate but after the 22 hours pass the I get the "You missed a council mission" notification and the mission is lost without launching

Yeah, here's the thing about that. It's SUPPOSED to be quick response, but for some reason it doesn't work that way. Here's what you do: load up your squad with as many soldiers and as much gear as you want, and send them to infiltrate. Then, immediately click on the mission. You should be seeing relatively reasonable enemy numbers; launch the mission right away. Enemies will have pretty big detection radii, so just go in loud and fast with your huge squad.

Excellent, I was able to start the mission with this advice and the mission goes smoothly aswell as the aliens play flawlessly on the many missions ive used them on. I've gotten the Muton Hunter and a standard Viper.
Ive got a bit of data over the last few days.
-The alien rescue mission to get them is a bit to hard. You can only take up to 4 soldiers on the mission and you'll be fighting around 15 aliens.
-All the animations ive tried with the hunter have worked well, including reviving an ally with a medkit or from a chosen daze
-Ive noticed that quite a few people like to play LWOTC with a controller but you cant click on a mission to start it early on the vactical map (that I know of) If anyone asks you, they need to switch back to mouse controls to manually start the mission after you infiltrate

Only being able to take 4 soldiers is a bug, not a feature. It might be a mod conflict. Every time I've run the mission it lets me take 10 soldiers.

@Pinky's Brain I didn't remove that feature in terms of what it did in the original mod, but I also don't have any plans to add additional support for it.

on the PoliticalPrisoners mission,I sent a muton harrier and couldn't get into the mission and collapsed.
