I've done everything I can to work around this issue, thinking it operator error, and I'm finding it flat impossible. Quality of chair doesn't seem to affect pawn selection - they'll ignore spacertech chairs placed literally adjacent to a bookshelf. I have one pawn's private toilet which receives every reader in the colony. If I use mods to restrict that bathroom/toilet access, they stop reading autonomously altogether. I'll admit it's pretty disappointing because VBE adds a pretty unique mechanic.

I have a similar problem with Advanced Chairs from VE Spacer Module. They all run to one of those across the map instead of taking one of the Masterwork Advanced Gold Chairs in my 30k wealth library. It's so stupid

Same issue, except for me all my pawns will go to the private bedroom of my royal which happens to have a table (much worse than the library's I might add)

I wonder; how possible is it to make another submod that forces designated spots for reading books?

Here is what i found as a quick and dirty solution for toilet reading:
1) Find BuildingsB_Hygiene.xml file in the mod folder, and change
to
This will remove "chair tag" from toilets, so pawns will not consider them as chairs. But they still use toilets normally.
2) Use smart toilets. For whatever reason, they don't have this "chair tag"

Based on my limited testing, pawns will prioritize following places for reading books:
1. Chair in a bedroom.
2. Chair adjacent to a table in a dining room.
3. Toilet in a bedroom.
4. Chair in a recreation room.

This four seems to be solid. After that it gets confusing. The following is highly innacurate priority list:
5. Most comfortable chair in dining or recreation room. Provided that chair in the dining room is not adjacent to a table.
6. Chair in a room (but room type matters?).
7. Chair adjacent to a work station (but room type matters?).
8. Chair under a roof located outdoors.
9. Chair under open sky.
10. Toilet in a public bathroom.

It seems that impressiveness of a room doesn't matter.

Fix? I don't think the mod is broken, there is just some weird room priorities. I just built a room with only chairs, tables and shelves for books. Since that, pawns were always reading books only in that room.

TIP: You can use interactive table from "Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Spacer Module" to get even more recreation from book reading. It seems that when a pawn reads a book at that table it gets recreation both from the table and from the book.
