it has a large tank, and valve wants a unique pyro weapon so...

sprays lingering gas that can be lit on fire ( alt-fire )
+40% afterburn damage
-Has no airblast

It'd be cool if this was kinda like the sticky bomb launcher of pyro weaponry, in that you could spray down an area with a noxious, poisonous gas which will hinder enemy movements and then you can light it on fire. The gas should hang around for about two minutes before dissipating, but when lit on fire it flares up, explodes then runs out. I'd suggest a lower overall ammo capacity.

Good idea, but honestly that would be pretty broken...

In real life that small canister would contain compressed air, which pushes the fuel stronger and gives more range for the flames, but it runs out pretty fast or air pressure falls down. It has to be replanished with an air pump or changed to another canister
It narrows the flow of thoughts to range and airblast radius.
The closest suggestion to this concept are these. Nice one.

We could also exploit the "airpump" and "pressure" concept. But it gets a lot more complicated. Hell, just so many ideas in my head. Non of them probobly useful.
Something like:
The Compact Combustor has a pressure meter. More the pressure - longer the range. As pressure falls down the range gets shorter. To get it back player needs pump by the air into the canister by pressing Altfire/Reload. Player has to remain stationary to do that ORloses speed while doing it. And there are no random crits.

OR

The Compact Combustor has a pressure meter. More the pressure - longer the range. As pressure falls down the range gets shorter. It replanishes itself. Airblast DOES NOT consume fuel and has larger radius, but eats entire pressure meter in *insert a small number here* shots.

(+) Hold Down /ALT FIRE/ to reflect ANY projectiles [ Bullets, Rockets, Syringes, Arrows, Grenades, Stickies ] /NOTE: Stickies can be detonated while held\ And all of the held projectiles can get released into aiming direction
(-) If Held for more than 2 Seconds OR More than 26 projectiles are held the projectiles will got back torwards you and your team
(-) 15% Damage Penalty

(-) Holding down the /ALT FIRE/ will drain the ammo until it has less than 10 ammo, which all held projectiles will be launched back at you and your team

On +Attack shoots a compressed ball of fire for 35 ammo that disapears within 4 seconds
Projectiles pierce 1 enemy
+25% afterburn time
-20% damage
+25% ammo capacity
Increases knockback recieved from damage
If airblasted downwards enables a second jump,
+20% airblast cost

Costs 10 ammo per shot.
Shoots Fireballs that explode on impact and light people on fire.
-No Airblast.
