I've had this happen to me a few times as well. Not sure what causes it though
Strangely enough, I just had this on an incline and a flat surface, came to see what's what.
It's almost like using ghost then mounting a dino, then on dismount you're stuck in the tile mesh jittering about.
Before getting it to sit, could not get the lie down to work at all. ALT+C just does the same thing as C.
Edit: The wolf pooped, and that got it out of the sit finally rofl. Tried lie down again, nothing, tried sit again, and now stuck in sit again lol.
