I figured out a great trick (which I needed cuz I suck at Where's Waldo): take the default Long-Range Precision Scope (LRPS) with you for shooting if you like, but also take the Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS) with you as well. When you need to find them, switch to TWS. Then it is a *piece of cake*, just switch through the modes with your night vision key (N). TWS alone might be sufficient for you if you use the zeroing feature.

Other tips for beginners: go prone and use your bipod for optimal steadiness (C), lie on terrain at the right angle when using the bipod so you can still see the enemy, zero your rifle to the right distance (use B for rangefinder and T on a rangefinder for determining distance), hold Shift before you fire to stop breathing and vibrating, then shoot. Easy.
