How do you check the ammo levels?

It said "USE KEY" in the description, but I have no idea what that means.

E is the default Use Key.

I tried E but my ammo levels didn't pop up. Is there a special button I can use to check how much ammo I have left in a gun?

Just Hold R It Should Popup Next To The Gun
