Stop it, Slender!
Making maps for Stop it, Slender?
I've made a map I'm making cross-compatible with other gamemodes, and really want to do a Slender version.

But, I've no idea how to do the main files. I've nosed around, and found out about slender_spawn entities, and that the notes are stored as numbers. I'm happy to make these myself, but how exactly do I work with those co-ordinates? how do I visually add the notes, then turn that into these numbers?

Also, how many starting places are reccomended? I've seen many, many of them in the decompiled maps I've poked into, so I'm unsure what the reccomended amount would be!

thanks in advance for a reply!

Tool for placing notes is coming eventually (it will be included in gamemode).

Ah, good to hear! I guess my map will have to wait then. I'll work on other gamemodes until then, I suppose!

Anyway, here is a small thing regarding placing pages on maps for mappers:

It will require mappers to use sheet model tho.
Basically you use the "insert entity name for pages" with sheet model in hammer, and set the page number via keyvalue.
These entities will act as possible spawnpoints, meaning that you can place more than just one entity with same keyvalue.

And then if gamemode loads the map that has such entities - it will load the info about pages, without any need to use the tool for placing pages (that will also come with that solution).

Any thoughts?

Well, I had an issue recently with the Razborka gamemode, in which their entities weren't available in hammer. whenever I converted a prop_physics to a vodka_bar, all angle info was lost. I made a makeshift FGD to deal with it. it was the first time that I made one, and I based it on the HL2MP FGD, and it worked with relative ease! I can easily imagine this gamemode could do something like that.

If these are entities (like, ent_page), you could cook up a FGD. I already see there is a Slender spawn entity, so I imagine this is already the case. if it's like, brushes generated into the map, not so much. which is the case?

If you need help on this area, I would be happy to help, via here or PM!

Basically it will require mappers to use the sheet model, so pages will appear correctly (since gamemode will read pos/angles).
If that method is fine - I'll notify when it's done (hopefully).

Ah, yep! That should be fine. If people are able to recognise how to download and install an FGD, it stands to reason that they probably can place a model/material in the right directories! ^^

Allright, gonna bump this thread once I get some time to implement that stuff for mappers (and map tools as well).

If you're going the whole hog here, and you're already using Page models for the page entities, may I request the Slenderman model for the slenderman entity? :U
