Only two adults?
I have found "Old Gods" interesting but unplayable, mostly because having only two adults makes success nearly impossible. Two adults cannot hunt *and* build at the same time. To build even one tent to survive the winter, the two must first build a wood pile (for the kids to bring sticks to) and a skins dryer, after which those two people with wooden spears must take down at least one dangerous animal without dying or suffering a wound that leads to infection. No fishing is possible until a harpoon is fashioned, i.e. before crafter can be built, and that too requires skins, of course, not to mention that one of the adults must stop doing everything else to make the harpoon. These problems are exacerbated by the original game's flawed AI (e.g. idle children needing near constant attention, adults going for sticks when another task has been marked priority, people walking past an empty food dryer to put raw food in a tent, adults returning home with two empty slots, etc). I like the "Old Gods" premise, but please, let us have at least four adults -- preferably more.

you are right - start is difficult so first decisions must be smart and in correct order, before winter come you need to build minimum one tent but better to have it faster so your people will have place to rest , but to do tents you need skin drier ,

I suggest to build stock pile first (kids must collect sticks) and heat - goats will come closer during autumnt + trader know where to come, and not focus much about hunting because adults must make construcions,

skins you can get by killing part of your goats (males not give milk) - please note that any of your goats will not survive the winter so I suggest to kill all of them before winter start - it should be enought skins for tents and crafter. Also is smart to send both adults to kill goat and bring all meat/skin/bones at once (kids will be busy collecting berries/milk and sticks)

in case problems - build skul pole to get more goats, or kill small animal if is close (one shot kill) to save time

When you survive winter - some of your kids should grow up to adults, and its easier

answering for request: I will check if old gods can send more adults, not as starting condition but as result of game event (for example kill first male deer to get 3 adults), so player can decide if want more adults faster or later

there will be also consequences, newcomers will need clothes, tools and food

Thank you, Makaan. I did carefully strategize the sequence of construction, but only realized that goats do not survive winter when they did not survive winter (I thought that I had read some comment about goats being hearty enough to get through). The opening seasons have no room for inefficiencies or accidents (e.g. infections, which killed both my adults the first time), and I am still trying to figure out how to override some basic-game AI "choices" made by the humans, and how to order them to do certain specifics (like leaving sticks at the woodpile right in front of them rather than taking them to get a drink, or exchanging their spear for a harpoon, or not having an adult pick berries while grandma goes mano a mano with a cave bear).
