Harebrained Schemes has been very supportive of the mod to the point of advertising it on their main site. Surely you all can present your case to them in the hopes that they'll allow for you to include the original music. They know the appeal of the original soundtrack, which is why they got the Sam Powell, the original composer, to make a new soundtrack for Shadowrun Returns. I'd like to think that they would be willing to make the necessary changes to the game engine, or at least make an exception for this mod given how much they've been praising it (I recall Jordan Weisman himself saying that he wanted to remake it, but thought it was better to have this fanmade project carry it out).
Or perhaps they could work out some other compromise. I'm not sure where the remake of the original soundtrack came from, but perhaps Harebrained Schemes could release it in some official capacity for mod makers to use while still restricting general modmakers from adding their own music. For instance, it might be included with Shadowrun Returns, but unused in Dead Man's Switch and reserved for mods to use.
I know I'm just one fan, but I feel very strongly about having the original SNES music, or a remake of it, in the SNES Reboot and I think others do as well. It won't be the same if I'm hearing Dead Man's Switch music instead of the music I fell in love with playing the original game. I'm willing to do whatever I can do to help with that, like sending e-mails to Harebrained Schemes asking them to make the necessary changes, because I believe that hearing the original soundtrack is worth fighting for.
