Friendly fire too stupid and annoying in close quarters
I really really hate the friendly fire system because how de ♥♥♥♥ do you manage to headshot a pawn litteraly in front of you while you're shooting over his shoulder and how does someone manage to empty a whole ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ magazine in his friend 10 centimeters in front of him

Pretty sure its just a side effect of the trajectory system, not sure if it's fixable or not, I'd assume if it were they'd have patched it already but.. yeah I just had a guy fire 5 shots into the back of his wife's head during an infestation.

Yeah The time I posted this an infenstation happened and needed to battle in a 2 wide corridor.
Everybody emptied their magazines on the person in front of them, I was so mad that I since then never touched CE anymore xD

Buddy this is normal, this even happens IRL with modern militaries and special forces. There was one clip where a french??? (not entirely sure which special operations force it was) was shot in the head by a team mate due to bad coordination. There is nothing that can be done for it but it happens. Don't line up your guys next to each other, not a good idea.

who would have thought that putting your team mate in front of your fire would get them killed.

The problem is the first two pawns should crouch, second pawn shoots from the shoulder of the first pawn and the third one should shoot while standing to avoid hitting each other. That's how it works in vanilla. Pawns don't friendly fire each other when literally touching themselves.

This mod? This mod removes that. I had an infesation as well. All my casualties were caused by guess what? FRIENDLY FIRE. Because the vanilla mechanic (which makes perfect sense and is immersive!) does not work anymore.

well that makes perfect sense then.

This. The advice to not put people next to each other is dumb within the context of rimworld. That would mean there are certain fights were you can basically only make use of one person, particularly when facing an enemy that's coming from a lot of different angles, or fighting in a narrow corridor, and one just isn't enough against most threats.

Friendly fire can happen IRL but as pointed out there are also ways to avoid it. I'd understand if it was just people who suddenly run across a field of fire, but to blow someone's head off when they've been standing right next to you firing for 30 seconds is quite silly. Can't really see that happening IRL. And definitely not with the frequency it happens in CE.

I really think this needs fixing. It absolutely hamstrings play throughs when this happens out of nowhere, on what was otherwise a safe and controlled firing position.

Had the same myself recently, lost my colony because of arranging my troops in two rows. I think it wasn't like that in the past versions of the mod. You could friendlyfire at a distance, but one pawn could shoot over the other if right next to him.

sucks (lost a colony at some point because of this as well), but is just a matter of changing up your strategy. For example, rather than using a line of melee tanks in-front of a firing squad, use the embrasures added by the mod to safely place your firing squad adjacent to the melee fighters. Just make sure the area is wide enough so whatever you're shooting at isn't covered by the embrasures as well. Need two lines of firing squads? then build another adjacent embrasures line in the opposite side... It starts to pretty much become just another type of kill-box.

Unfortunately this is not possible when an infestation happens inside your main stockpile room.

deconstruct walls or furniture in other areas to re-purpose the materials for a makeshift kill-box nearby. Then draw the buggers in. Been there and done that xD

This just isn’t applicable to all situations in rimworld. There are going to be situations where it happens as long as this friendly fire mechanic is left in place. Last time it happened to me, my troops were behind embrasures. If an enemy strafes too far to one side, your people will get into the situation where they’re firing almost sideways through the embrasures, across your firing line, which greatly increases the chance of blowing one another’s heads off. It’s also likely to happen if you set embrasures up on a corner section of a wall.
