nut
Amazing skins, good looking guard, love the theme. Rough name though, doesn't match theme.

Yeah! I mean thank you for your kind words, if you can also tell me why you think the name doesn't fit the theme it will help me to choose better names in the future maybe :)

Well without translating it's pretty easy to determine that it's cliche. It's a little edgy and overused and it doesn't really represent the item. There are other katanas on the workshop that the name could apply to or even work better with (much edgier ones), but it isn't based on say, the elegant, smooth porcelain design of the weapon, or the pale modest gold, or the ornate guard. You could probably argue that the name applies because of a "Justicar" theme, but I think there are a bunch of better names that would fit the "Light/Divine/Judgement" theme.

How about it simply applies cause it's a japanese katana and shinigami means death ripper in japanese? All the other arguments are just about the fact that you think japanese name = edgy design but this is not the first japanese themed skin i've made and they are all based on japanese folklore and none of them are edgy at all so i'm just being consistent with my own style and it's going on for over 3 years already :) i hope i've made you change your mind about it haha, anyway it's not that important. You'll forget the name of it the second you get it ingame for sure ^^

Hold up, it's a little much to assume I think it's edgy that it's in japanese. I think a japanese name that applied would be cool enough, but shinigami isn't edgy or cliche because it's japanese, it's because it's done to death. Also I haven't stigmatized edgy things as being bad, I just think this model is very much not edgy, but the name is. I think that's like weird reasoning anyway, that it applies because it's japanese. By that logic "teiboku" is a matching name. And now I also have to know is the equinox skin also japanese themed? Is the rapier? Why did you call the rapier Ferita (I love this name btw) but this weapon of identical theme is named differently. "Hagoromo" was an awesome unique name.

No not all of what i make is japanese inspired, just a few items here and there and they are always inspired by youkai folklore (with matching names, hagoromo, kodama, youkai) of which shinigamis are from. I cannot consider what other people use a common name for though otherwise almost anything would be overused. For instance when i used Hagoromo for my Zephyr skin people told me the same exact thing you're telling me now for shinigami cause it was a name used in naruto somewhere, who knows where. Nobody knew about the folklore legend and where it came from and why it worked well with the theme of the skin.

Shinigamis are youkai that are supposed o accompany people to death or the afterlife which is pretty much what you'll be doing in warframe with a katana lol ^^ The visual theme it's consistent to other stuff i did and the name theme is consistent with youkai folklore as i have used in the past for every single japanese inspired skin i did.... and it fits cause it's a japanese katana, no matter what design language is used ^^

I agree you should stay on theme with japanese folklore names on your japanese themed items, but it's strange you've already gone in on these italian names, but doing a 180 for an item in the same collection/theme. Also your caduto skin is very similar to your other "japanese" skins but you opted for an italian name. You could argue Hagoromo is in the same skin line, but the name Angel's Raiment has vastly different color and theme implications that apply well to that skin. Generally when people hear that, they're going to jump to bright colors, royal reds and blues, and metallics possibly (especially gold). You should want a name that does the same thing here, if you wanted to use a youkai folklore spirit, I imagine there are more folklore entities that are more appropriate than this right?

If a name is gonna elicit a negative emotional response from people intuitively, it doesn't seem wise to use it regardless of whether or not it's in theme. Even if they aren't seeing the original unbastardized meaning of the word, you're still the person eating the bullet. If Faven produced a katana skin in the same theme as the other graxx skins, I would still expect it to be called graxx, even if the katana was a japanese weapon. Or if he made a Greatsword I wouldn't expect him to switch from a grineer name to a scottish name. You could maybe argue that doesn't have the same cultural significance as the katana but I still think Theme>Weapon Nationality.
