Question for the makers
If I didn't know how to make a map but drew a layout or explained it's mechanics, could you guys pull it off?

They could, but they wouldn't want to.

The best way to realize your idea is to do it yourself. I suggest UEAKCrash's mapmaking tutorials. They're a great place to start.
