bug with Machine Gun Turret mod and Worker Droid

hi this is just to try and keep all related info in one place, for the issue i had with the droids being able to use 1 type of turret, but not another turret:

Problem:
"this was a bug that kept popping up and stopped the machine gun emplacement from shooting with droids:

(debug log messages that keep repeating about 2 times per second, regarding "exception ticking turret (system.invalidCastException: cannot case from source type to destination type)")

hi, has anyone been able to get an droid to use a Machine Gun Emplacement from
xnd's Turret Extensions mod? i can get a worker droid to use a mounted crossbow turret ,but not a plastic machine gun emplacement and just get tick after tick (errors popping up) - i even tried a different material like steel using admin spawning but still the same error -

as a result, i suddenly found that my base was not as well-defended as i thought, and by the time i found out i could not use the droids i sent out to the perimeter to shoot the machine gun turrets, i didnt have time to send colonists instead, and my base got swarmed by 14 raiders using some really powerful Callistan and Orassan weapons... one of the sniped my main Colony Founder who named the colony i started with lol, and took her head clean off.... :o)

its all part of the story but i dont suppose there is a way to re-clone or fix someone who has lost their head?

i also have a 1.7GB compressed file of my whole game folder (inc mods) but can probably get that down to less once i remove the actual rimworld files etc. (was just easier to make a backup locally but wouldnt want to pass that around without removing those files lol) = about 1.5GB

(pure speculation off the amount of mods) there is definitely a mod conflict going on here and it would take a large amount of time to find out which mod(s) is causing the issue, i would suggest uninstalling mods that you don't use and try to limit yourself in the future, i'm sorry if i couldn't provide an exact cause of the issue.

ah thanks for having a look, ok no problem.
it might just be that only human colonists can use it (which chjees might know about) but i need to do more testing.

(its so addictive adding mods lol :) but apart from this issue (which i admit ,cost me the life of my colony founder, the mods seem to be playing quite well together) :)

hi just a quick update... i tried some tests with the same modlist as above, but with a new colony in admin/god mode, and at first, the machine gun turret emplacement gave the same errors...
but, i then clicked upgrade (since i have an upgrade mod too), and then they started working without any errors :)

it seems to be inconsistent, in the sense that about 80% of the time, they work, (manned by humans, aliens, worker droids, battle droids) but i had to manually click upgrade (on 1 of them) and then any more i built, just worked even without an upgrade.

i managed to load up my original savegame (just before the battle), and re-played the raid defence, and swapped the "machine gun emplacement" for "machine gun complex", which looked similar in stats, and then actually managed to man the turrets with 2 droids, and successfully defended my base - and the colony Founder didnt get her head blown off this time lol

(not exactly a solution, as i think the issue is probably to do with not starting a new game, but it got me past the issue, and now i can switch to god mode and delete and rebuild them from scratch in the existing game and do an upgrade and see if it works - else will stick to machine gun complex, but will then spend time doing the actual research for it to that i dont actually cheat) :)
