Semi-permanent fix to the starving animals issue
Apparently, in the base game most of these animals won't eat. I found a mod that fixes this issue, though not perfectly

Animals still won't eat from inventory, but will eat from food stores, troughs, and food on the ground.

Also animals will eat things alive if that's normal for them, but it doesn't actually replenish their hunger

Did this issue get fixed? My animals still starve to death

You should give them animal feeding bags, this is probably the best way to keep your animals from starving, make sure to refill their bags once in a while tho, otherwise they will starve of course.
