It is rather interesting for the Hungarian you have invested. :)
My ideas are way too many and will lead to stolen ideas, but I'll post some ideas here:
- individual focus trees for all nations. Well, this is hard to make historical focus trees for all nations, but the Cold War: Iron Curtain mod seems to be going that way and even their new generic focus trees gives you way more bonuses than the normal generic tree.
- New parties. It is sad to see that a game like this didn't manage to do that themselves. But "Democratic" isn't an ideology that makes up for a nation. Being democratic is one thing, being reactionary or christian democratic or monarchist is another thing. Again, this is stolen by Cold war: Iron curtain, but it will make up a good match even on the 1936 start date. (So say, having USA be conservatives vs liberals (?) instead of just having "Democratic")
- Voting and election system. Now this, I came up with myself, as I don't know if there is any mod out there that does that. As a socialist, I mildly feel insulted by the game claiming that communism is all about having a dictatorship and to not allow for votings. This is because the ideal of socialism, or communism, is to have a direct democracy under the rule of the people. You can say that, in the current time when people talk about "XYZ meddling in our elections", a socialist or communist would say "Capitalists meddle in the countries elections" because they support a party and spend a lot of money into marketing and campaign for this specific party to get people on their side, which shouldn't be happening, that's why socialist countries tend to have a one-party system.
So, for democracies, instead of having "Democracy" you can have all those other ideologies (Socialism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, Liberalism, Liberal communism, Liberal conservatism, christian democracy, christianity, judaism, monarchist etc.)
For fascists, you can stay with the old dictatorship as it is obvious there.
For Communists (Socialism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, Revolutionism and such) you can have either elections as normal democracies, or have them have events every 5 years to choose their leader (And so that the AI will make historical decisions, so Stalin leading until he dies, then Khrushchev and so on) but for say, ahistorical countries, like switzerland going marxist-leninist or any other socialist ideology, they might have different stuff going. (Choosing from 3 - 6 persons which one of them will rule the country, giving them buffs and all so that the player has to choose one of their traits + what way he wants to go. So have them have other socialist ideals, for example 2 marxist-leninist that give bonus on popularity for marxist-leninists and have some different traits, 2 maoists doing their thing and so on)
