how do you use the charge jump on the run tool

i hold crouch and wait for the tone to rise until it stutters but nothing happens. not sure what im supposed to do from there

Did you try jumping while the tone is playing?

yeah but nothing happens. do i jump while im crouching on the ground or do i have to let go before i jump? if the tone starts stuttering is that too late or something??
