Linux - Failed to lock vertex buffer error (Appears to be Stan-related)
Hello,
On attempting to use Stan, I get a "Engine error failed to lock vertex buffer in CMeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer" and the game closes. My GPU is a GTX1060, and I'm on Antergos (Arch) Linux 64-bit. Nvidia driver version 396.45-2.

I realize Linux support in a Source game is shaky at best but it appears to be linked to how Stan's effect is rendered. I went through the whole intro and the Jazz Bar without issue. I was able to steal props - some of which became the pink crystal void texture with cats behind - so that's not it.

That's super interesting, all the stan effect does is use a few render.DrawBeams + some clientside models for skulls. And you can steal props/world just fine? I would've thought that would've crashed for sure.

I'll see if it's somehow rendering those weirdly, but I don't really have a linux machine readily around to test.

Yep, I can steal props without issue, and I just confirmed that I can use the portable bus stop, and whatever rendering weirdness goes into destroying a wall because a trolley crashed through it is no problem.

Thank you for the quick response! Should I go grab any log files? Which log files in particular, and under which path?

Just spawned some ropes in sandbox mode, and that didn't cause any issues, so whatever beam rendering it's doing must be separate from that.

Same issue here. Debian 64bit, whenever I try to use Stan it fails with a "Failed to Lock Vertex Buffer". Would it be possible to do some kind of workaround?

It looks like it happens for all linux players. My solution is trying to NOT picking up Stan. If I do, my Gmod brokes, so... Yeah.
