This is why they disappear when you try and spawn one
if you summon one and it disappears then you have 500 on the map
Thats not many on ragnarok

The mod is designed to self manage so when it hits Max amount then
It wont allow any more to spawn until some die

To adjust the maximum amount of Humans on the map
Just add these lines below to the GameUserSettings.ini
Don’t worry I you don’t know how to
It will default to 500 if it is not added
500 is about a good number for the Center

I was running 2000 in Ragnarok

GameUserSettings.ini

For dedicated servers the GameUserSettings.ini is here
\SteamApps\Common\ARK Survival Evolved Dedicated Server\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsServer

For single player the GameUserSettings.ini is here
\steamapps\Common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini
add the lines at the end (bottom)

add Nude_NPCs=1 only if you do not want underwear on the NPCs

[Human_NPCs]
Total_NPCs=1000
Nude_NPCs=1

Find the GameUserSettings.ini file using the filepath he provided. It isn't hard.

I have a seperate question:

How does this affect existing spawns on existing servers? Does it edit existing ones, create its own? Or do something else? Reason I ask is that I'm hoping its reversible if something breaks and I need to uninstall the mod for some reason.

Its totaly reversable - just adds to the existing spawns when the mod is loaded no permanet changes

Anyway to handle clusered servers? While the prime map is Ragnarok, and 2000 NPC works great, it far too many for most other smaller maps,

Hello you explain why they do disappear but what is the solution? We have installed this to our server and now we can't spawn them, they just disappear instantly.

Possible workaround for this could be: up the limit by one, when a spawn command is used.

I will rewrite the spawn area stuff one day soon and hopfully get it sorted

Maybe you could hook into the settings-menu, which also modifies ini-values, but I'm not sure if that is possible in-game.

The issue is getting the code to tell if was spawned by the server or by the console -- so far I have not found a trigger or a difference I can use to seperate the 2 - If I can Its just a simple true false and it is done :) so close
